Maron Resur
Painter
Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Maron Resur.
I was born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1979.
What do you make?
I make oil paintings on canvas of people's faces.
Where else on the web can we find you?
My primary website is maronresur.com
I also have an Etsy shop, and a Facebook page, where I list current shows.
What did you dream about last night?
Luckily for this interview, I actually had a vivid and memorable dream last night.
I dreamt that it was a hot summer night, back in my old room at my parents' house in the woods in the Kentucky Bottoms. I had the windows open, hearing whippoorwills and crickets. Then I got stabbed to death.
My husband loves to watch true crime TV shows, so most of my dreams end with me either murdering someone or getting murdered.
What inspires you?
Hillbillies.
Where do you live and what do you like about it?
I currently live with my husband and kitty in Snohomish Washington.
It is beautiful, with the Snohomish River flowing past, the Cascades in the distance, and only 45 minutes to downtown Seattle. We've lived out here in the Pacific Northwest for 2 years.
I like everything about it except the weather is monotonous, and the people can be less than effusive - we can't make friends!
What is your biggest fear?
Something bad happening to my family.
Name a few of your favorite movies \ books \ websites \ bands:
Most movies are too intense for me, but I often leave the TV on all day, tuned to the History Channel or the Travel Channel, COPS, Star Trek... It is purely a relaxation thing for me.
My mom always had the TV on, and it keeps me company.
Even though my day job has been in libraries for nearly 10 years, I don't take many books home. My reading time used to be while I was laying out in the sun, but I live in Western Washington now!
I'm not trying to brag about not reading, but it explains why the last book I finished was the third in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, in 2006.
My favorite website is probably Etsy, because it caters to my need to shop and my need to obsessively check something.
My taste in music is very specific. It is important to me that music be personal and familiar, with a strong sense of place. I like to pretend that songs are about me. The record labels Secretly Canadian and Jagjagwar are based in my Bloomington, and I like a lot of their stuff.
I also gravitate towards Chicago's Drag City bands, and my all time favorite is Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy, aka Palace), from Louisville. He just sounds like me.
I listen to Jay-Z a lot when I'm driving.
I listen to Smog while I'm painting.
I listen to Destroyer when I'm getting dressed.
I listen to Microphones / Mount Eerie when I'm homesick (ironic because they're from Washington!).
What are you really good at? What are you really bad at:
I am great at library work flow efficiency and creating procedural documentation. Boring?
I am terrible at anything that requires spatial intelligence, like interior decorating or scuplture.
What is your favorite thing to eat?
I love to eat, especially out here in Washington.
Everything is so fancy and fresh! Although, I do miss Gold Star Chili, White Castle, and Steak & Shake. I love tomatoes, BBQ ribs, any and all seafood, cheese, beer, ... I love Greek food. Luckily, I have always been skinny, but when my metabolism slows down I'll be screwed.
How would you like to be remembered?
I would like to be A huge stone monument over a pine box on a hill in the woods.
What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
I am easily embarrassed and easily disappointed, usually the two are connected.
Exhibitions are always humiliating.
Anything else you would like to say:
Thank you so much!
